We will welcome our next presenter, Mark Drozda, next week on November 6, 2pm, in the Fireside Library, when he will present The Big Rich, a colorful story about the first big oil barons of Texas! That will be a big shift in book content and style, and Mark is a very good presenter. Encourage any history lovers you know to come along to this meeting!
Here is a quick summary of our next presenters, in hopes of tempting you to come to further meetings. On January 8, 2025, Peter McCreight returns to present Walter Isaacson’s fascinating and deeply researched biography of Benjamin Franklin, one of our founding fathers, a famous scientist, publisher, and diplomat – truly a renaissance man of his time. This biography, is terrific!
This spring (date TBA), Jean Thomas will present the Colm Toibin novel Long Island, a wonderful novel about a troubled marriage, a trip that rekindles an old romance, and all the trouble that can follow. The book is a wonderful counterpoint to its predecessor Brooklyn, which was made into an Academy Award nominated movie in 2015. We recommend that you watch that movie in advance. It’s available on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV and other media.
Except as noted above, all meetings will start at 2pm in the Fireside Library. Bring a friend!
