Here at LJUMC our ministry for children is excited to partner with you to help your children grow mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Whether it be one of our Sunday morning classes, Vacation Bible School, family or age level camps, or seasonal events, there is always a place for your family.
In Sunday School children will come to know the wonders of God’s love with lessons that cover the Bible over a three-year period. This year we will be covering some of the most familiar stories of the Bible. Our goal is that though Bible stories, activities, crafts, videos and games you child’s faith will grow by “leaps and bounds.”
Each Sunday, Children start in the worship service. We ask that parents sign in at the children's area of the Narthex (lobby). Children are excused after a few minutes to go to the Chapel (the exact time will be listed in the bulletin). On the first Sunday of the month, the children stay in the Chapel for worship and will return to worship for Communion. On the other Sundays, the children will go to the 2nd floor of the Education/Nursery School building and can be picked up following worship in their classrooms.
Each summer La Jolla UMC offers Vacation Bible School to its members and the community. This week long day camp takes place for a few hours each morning for children 3 years old to entering 5th grade. Children participate in music, crafts, science experiments, games, snack, storytelling, and more. The following Sunday is a VBS celebration when children sing in church and share with the congregation what they learned at camp.
Save July 23-27 for Vacation Bible School 2018. This year's theme is Peace Lab. Information about registration to follow soon.
Each September La Jolla UMC gives bibles to the Third graders. The bibles are signed by the pastor of the church and presented to the children in a ceremony during the worship service. Bibles will be presented on September 9, 2018.
Throughout the year La Jolla UMC offers a variety of special events for children. These include the annual Christmas workshop, live unrehearsed nativity scene on Christmas Eve, Easter Egg Hunt, and more.
The San Diego District of the United Methodist Church hosts a younger and older elementary camp every summer at Camp Cedar Glen in Julian, CA. At camp, children participate in age appropriate activities such as bible study, small group discussion, worship, singing, skits, archery, rock climbing, high ropes challenge course, hiking, crafts, group games, swimming, and much more. Every night is closed with a campfire. Registration begins in early February. See www.calpaccamps.org for more information.
