Unity Build with Habitat for Humanity

La Jolla UMC has an opportunity to serve.  San Diego Habitat for Humanity is building six homes in National City. A Unity Build event will be held from February 4th through February 6th to help complete this project.  There will be more information provided later this month. How Your Pledge Supports Missions

As we are pledging to contribute to church funds, I thought that the congregation would like to know which organizations are supported by the church through the activities of the Missions & Social Concerns Committee.  Our committee is a relatively small part of the church budget, but we provide funds for several important community groups as well as some missionary programs.  Our social concerns are focused primarily on our local community where contributions can have a significant and immediate effect. …

Book Talk has successfully re-launched!  Thirteen enthusiastic readers gathered in Fellowship Hall on October 6 to hear veteran presenter Mary Jane Lincoln talk about the entertaining book Running With Sherman, by Christopher McDougall. Interfaith Shelter Network – 2021 Update

The Interfaith Shelter Network is continuing to serve the people experiencing homelessness even though churches are not hosting the shelters during the pandemic. The guests are being housed in motels, and meals are being delivered. It’s really not the same personal connection that we obtain when we host the guests in Memorial Hall and share wonderfully cooked meals with them. However, they have been provided with a safe and warm place to sleep during cold and rainy nights; and the social service support…

Migrant Children in San Diego

Almost 1500 children who arrived unaccompanied in the United States are now housed at the San Diego Convention Center. Initially there were more than 900 teenage girls, but now some younger boys and girls with ages of 5 to 12 are sheltered there with siblings being kept together.
