At the outset the committee and designer recognized some of the very real restrictions on this project – the dimensions of the windows and the limited amount of sunlight which enters the building because of the roof overhand and permanently installed tinted windows. Use of leaded glass or faceted was considered and the decision was made to use both. At the time the windows were made the design team was unaware of any other works where both leaded and faceted glass had been combined. The seven window spaces suggested rather quickly the possibility for the days of creation as a thematic scheme. In the lower portion of the six tall, narrow windows (12’ x 1’) – abstractly interpreted in faceted glass (slab glass cast in cement resin) are the various acts performed in the opening story of creation in the Book of Genesis. The upper portion of these six windows uses leaded glass – the flowing design and colors, mostly gold tones, suggest God’s presence above all creation. The window (4’ x 8’) above the carved Sanctuary doors is entirely leaded glass.
