This group meets from 8:30 to 9:30 AM on Sunday mornings in the church’s Fireside Library. Its intent is to study current events and how they should be interpreted in light of our Christian heritage and tradition. As a guide, we subscribe to a Methodist publication named Faithlink, which is e-mailed to members the preceding Tuesday. While that week’s subject usually forms the basis for discussion, the leader for that Sunday also has the option to choose other issues in which they have a particular interest.
As might be expected, many diverse opinions are represented within the group, and discussions tend to be quite lively. It is our goal to present fairly all sides of the issue. All are welcome to join in helping us discern our role in these issues and how they relate to LJUMC.
Your Fireside Library under the leadership of Susan Russell has completed its lineup for a wide variety of book reviews this 2019/2020 season.
We will start in October with our all-star opener, Lloyd Russell. In November we will feature Mary Jane Lincoln. You will have Mary Lee Delafield in December to review great books for Christmas time reading or gifting.
In January we will have Sandy McCreight, followed by Cherie Huse in February. Don Lincoln will be featured in March with Cindy Rushing in April. Our all-star closer for the season will be Pastor Phil in May.
All book reviews will be the first Wednesday of each month at 1:30 PM in the Fireside Library except for Sandy’s review on January 8.
The church eJournal and/or the Sunday bulletin will keep you posted on the books and authors selected.
Throughout the year, La Jolla UMC provides Bible and topical studies covering topics such as Advent and Lent.
