Family Matters! Make a Difference in 2018! Debby Fishburn, Church Council Chair

Family Matters! At La Jolla UMC, our focus on family and being an extended family within our community is a hallmark of our tradition. Many within our church often talk about the family connection they feel to others within our congregation. It is an important statement about who we are and thus very appropriate as the theme of our 2017 Stewardship Campaign commencing October 1. Our goal is $455,000—a five percent increase over our 2016 result. We hope that by everyone stepping up his or her pledge we can make this number a needed reality.
The funds we raise through the Stewardship Campaign serve a multitude of programs within our church and community, including:
*For children: Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Choir, Family Camp, Christmas Workshop
*For youth: Youth Events and Studies, Youth Up Front, Youth Retreat, Youth Mission, Confirmation
*For adults: Fellowship Groups, Sunday School, Bible Studies, Lent and Advent Small Group Studies, Library Book Talk
*For music: Chancel Choir, Dorian Bells, Seasonal Concerts, Family Friendly Concerts
*For the community: La Jolla UMC Nursery School, Alzheimer Support Group, AA/Al-Anon., Yoga/Exercise Classes, Boy Scouts, Venture Crew
*For outreach to others in need: Interfaith Shelter, CCSA, Empty Bowls, Snack Bag/Bus Pass/Laundry Ministries

In addition to financial support for the above, we have staff salaries and a large facility to maintain as part of our annual budget. The dollars we commit to JLUMC each year at this time are critical to our mission to maintain and grow our 60 plus-year ministry within the local community. Your pledge makes a difference as it allows the Finance team to accurately budget for the coming year. It provides continuity in our programs and, most essentially, reinforces and sustains our family at the church and in the surrounding areas.
A letter and a pledge card will be mailed to you early next week.. Please take the time to read over these materials and contact the church office if you have questions. We ask that you please bring your pledge card to church or mail it to us in the coming days.
Every Sunday in October starting on October 8, Pastor Phil will give the congregation the opportunity to bring their pledge cards forward. The pledge status for the church will be updated weekly in order that everyone can monitor our progress towards the $455,000 goal. Early giving is very helpful as it allows us to know where we stand and ideally wrap up the campaign by the first weeks of November. We look forward to celebrating the success of the 2017 campaign together on Sunday, November 26.
At LJUMC, we believe strongly that Family Matters!  Make a pledge today and help us make a difference in all the families we touch in 2018!
