“Taking Care of Our Children”
As the news of child abuse unfolds from the campuses of Penn State and Syracuse, we are all saddened for the victims and more than a bit angry at the alleged perpetrators and the conspiracy of silence that surrounded it. When something like gets our attention, we are reminded how important it is to be vigilant about our children’s well-being.
LJ UMC is part of our greater church’s “Safe Sanctuary” movement. This means we follow a strict set of guidelines and precautions that help to insure the safety of the children and youth in our care. From background checks to multiple adults or children being present, we attempt to create an environment is safe and secure, beyond question. Zero tolerance is a good policy to nip a problem in the bud, but better still is the policy that precludes the violation. Being proactive in that regard is our goal.
Church is a place we all should feel safe and secure in our personal well-being. Let’s all work together to keep LJ UMC that way.
