Sex, drugs, and Rock n Roll

Yea, all right, pretty stupid title.  Yet I was watching tv the other night and it dawned on me that most everything I see nowadays revolves around sex, food, and power.  Not exactly what we heralded in the '60s, but perhaps more to the point.  To build an audience, to keep an audience, it would seem you need these qualities.  Is this all there is to life?  Of course not, yet it would seem this way.

Life may be all about drives of our basic and instinctual nature, yet there is more than food, sex, and power that drives us.  I would argue the case that we are driven to attain meaning.  Victor Frankl makes a good case for this in his post WWII book Man's Search for Meaning.  We are not only driven to find meaning, we are driven into relationships to find love.  The experience of love can be more powerful than any other drive, even sex.  Love is more transcendent, beyond the physical though expressed through the physical.

Love and meaning - on these two I place the foundation of life abundant.  We may enjoy good food, satisfying sex, exciting power, but we go for accepting love and purposeful meaning every time.
