| Annual La Jolla UMW Rummage Sale
The La Jolla United Methodist annual rummage sale opens its doors for the 53nd time on Saturday, March 9th at 8:30 a.m. The sale fills the entire church campus. The proceeds benefit several causes sponsored by the United Methodist Women (UMW), including missions for women and children, CCSA, METRO, and the LJUMC Nursery School scholarship fund, to name a few. The sale is a community event and includes the opportunity to find numerous bargains in the many different departments, enjoy hamburgers and homemade cakes on the patio, and chat with neighbors and friends. There is everything from furniture to housewares, clothing to Christmas items (in their own special department), books, toys, and even a special department for infants and children. Each year the whole rummage sale experience involves volunteers from the church as well as friends visiting from out of state and others formerly connected to the church family. A crew of faithful “sorters” work throughout the year sorting and pricing. This year more than 50 volunteers will help to move the rummage from various storage areas to the various selling areas. More that 100 members, friends and family members will work the day of the sale. At the end of the sale day weary (but happy workers) will be joined by enthusiastic and energetic members of Scout Troop 506 to “clean up” and return the church campus to its “normal” mode for Sunday worship the next day. The sale has become a community institution. Many folks automatically mark the second Saturday in March when they get their new calendars for the year! In the words of one of the sale’s founders, Davy Webb, “Our hope is that this sale will be able to continue for many more years. It is the one project that involves the whole church family and there is a spirit that sale day that is hard to explain.” Come catch the spirit and find a bargain or two (or three or four)! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Sunday Family Concert: Pacific Brass Quintet
The next concert in the 2012-2013 Family Concert series will be Sunday, March 10, at 4:00 pm. A special treat is in store as we are educated and entertained by the Pacific Sounds Brass Quintet (PSBQ). Experience all the power and nuance that brass can deliver. The musicians of PSBQ are heavily involved in the edu-cational community from middle school to college from South Bay to North County. Members are R.B. Anthony (French horn) John Reynolds (trumpet) Tim Saeger (trumpet) Andrew Moreau (trombone) and Jenn Opdahl (tuba). The Pacific Sound Brass Quintet seeks to educate minister and entertain through the performance of quality brass literature. As an ensemble of active educators PSBQ has style substance and just a touch of irreverence. There’s something for every audience! In keeping with the Family Concert Series’ goal of interesting children in music and various musical instruments the concert will begin with an introduction of the instruments. After a short intermission the remainder of the program will be devoted to your enjoyment of the music. THERE IS NO ADMISSION CHARGE. A free-will offering will compensate the musicians for their time. An opportunity to meet the musicians will follow the concert. All are encouraged to come and enjoy this special opportunity for parents to share the magic of music with their children neighbors and friends. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Parents with very young children are invited to take advantage of the free child care available before or at any time during the concert.
