| Empty Bowls
Fight Hunger, Find Beauty Choose a handmade pottery bowl, donated by local artisans. Fill it with delicious soup and bread from your favorite local restaurants. Give Proceeds go to TACO (Third Avenue Charitable Organization), feeding the homeless and working poor in downtown San Diego for 34 years. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger and you can help. Bring your family and friends to the Empty Bowls Luncheon. For a suggested minimum donation of $20, you’ll be helping those who often have “empty bowls” in our own community. This program began in 1990 when a high school art teacher in Michigan helped his students search for a way to raise funds for a food drive. They came up with a class project to make ceramic bowls in which to serve a simple meal of soup and bread to guests. The guests were invited to keep their bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world. By the following year, the originators had developed this concept, calling it “Empty Bowls”. Events have been held throughout the world raising millions of dollars to combat hunger. San Diego area potters and local students are already making hundreds of ceramic bowls for Empty Bowls 2012. Restaurants will donate soups and breads. Guests purchase a bowl and then have it filled with delicious soup. After enjoying this simple meal of soup and bread, the guests take their bowls home as a reminder that their donation has helped to fight hunger in San Diego. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
