All adults are welcome to attend our weekly Explorers class, with coffee and goodies provided! Each week we explore a different topic, usually a current event, and look at it from the point of view of scripture and United Methodist tradition.

Sunday Family Concert: Woodwind Quintet
The woodwind quintet with concert mistress Cathy Blickenstaff that impressed us at the Peter and the Wolf concert of last season returns to perform on Sunday, May 20 at 4 p.m. Present and former members of the La Jolla Symphony once again will entertain on clarinet, flute/piccolo, bassoon, oboe and French horn.
In keeping with the Family Concerts Series’ goal of interesting children in music and various musical instruments, the concert will begin with an informative “show and tell.” After a short intermission the quintet will focus on a performance of songs from movies such as Star Wars and video games such as Super Mario Brothers. There will be a short Mozart quintet, and the grand finale will highlight Memorial Day with patriotic music, featuring the piccolo.
There is no admission charge. A freewill offering will be taken to compensate the musicians for their time. An opportunity to meet the musicians will follow the concert.
All are encouraged to come and enjoy this unique, special opportunity for parents to share the magic of music with their children, neighbors and friends. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Parents with very young children are invited to take advantage of the free child care available before or at any time during the concert.
